CALCMAR5 - TIDES PREDICTION SOFTWARE FOR PSION SERIES 5 - V1.0a - 3/5/1999

Software aim
Calcmar 5 is a tides prediction software. It uses the harmonic method developed by the Manual "Computation Applications to Tides in the National Ocean Survey" and the N.O.S. ( National Ocean Service) tidal differences.
Tides are computed during a two or six days period choiced by the user. A table shows results. Tide is also available like a graph. On this view, a mobile cursor may be moved by keyboard or pen to know height at any time.

Installation
Unzip all files with folder information.
You can erase "CalcMar5Data" folder and its files if you don't use database building facility. The database used by CalcMar5 is in "Documents " folder.
Database building
Every database needs N.O.S. tidal differences at considered places and harmnic constituents of reference stations. Build a new database needs a Psion Data file with tidal differences and a Psion Data file by reference station. The first release of CalcMar 5 is supplied with Psion Data files and built database of coasts of Spain and France.

- Tidal differences
There is a record by place. Data have the same format than "Tides Tables - Hight and Low Water Predictions" published by International Marine/McGraw-Hill.:
No place identification number
Place place name
Reference station reference station shortened name
Latitude
Longitude
Time Meridian	place time meridian
Hight Water Time Difference
Low Water Time Difference
Hight Water Height Difference
Low Water Height Difference
Note No place specific note number
The last field (Note) is only used to tick with a star reference stations.
The file also includes specific notes. A note record only needs the two last fields.
Note No note number
Note note text
Note numbers must be different. Original data use the same numbers than
International Marine/McGraw-Hill.
At last there is an additional record which CalcMar 5 don't use.
N.B. Data decimal separator must be the same than the Psion one. Then you import data, note that "" Windows ASCII code is not the same than Psion ASCII code.

- Reference stations harmonic constituents
Harmonic constituents must be in a Psion Data file with a name like the reference station shortened name used in tidal differences file. Every record has two fields. The first record enclose mean level in foot thousandth and time meridian. Next records enclose 37 constituents in the order: M2, S2, N2, K1, M4, O1, M6, MK3, S4, MN4, nu2, S6, mu2, 2N2, OO1, lambda2, S1, M1, J1, Mm, Ssa, Sa, MSf, Mf, rho1 Q1, T2, R2, 2Q1, P1, 2SM2, M3, L2, 2MK3, K2, M8, MS4. The fields of these records are respectively the amplitude in foot thousandth and the epoch in degree tenth. The last record enclose a specific note in the first field. The second field is'nt used by CalcMar 5.

Performance
A tide computation needs 10 to 15 seconds without date or reference station changing, 70 seconds with changing and a two days period, 100 seconds with a changing and a six days period. Computation time is function of constituents complexity of the considered place.

Responsability
The author don't accept any responsability in consequences of this program's use. He calls to you that official tides tables published by hydrographic authorities offer best warranty of precision and that the skipper must include a clearance in his calculation.

Registration
This software is a shareware. It don't work without registration for a later date than 90 days after the version date.
Registration allows you to profit by gratis updating.

Commands
Next items describe use of each command.

- Data file management - New
This comands allows to build a new database. At first, the program needs the tidal differences Psion Data file name. Reference stations harmonic constituents Psion Data files must be in the same folder. Then the program asks the new database name. It ony keeps the necessary data. So you can delete the unused stations data in the tidal differences Psion Data file before building database to save memory.

- Data file management - Open
This command allows to select the current database.

- Data file management - Import
This command allows to add or update the current database. The principle is the same to build a new databae. To modify harmonic constituents it's necessary to erase the old database.

- Data file management - Exit
This command allows to exit the program. Same effect can be obtained with the toolbar.

- Preferences - show Toolbar
This command allows to show or to hide the toolbar.

- Preferences - Sound on
This command allows to activate or not the beep.

- Preferences - Vessel characteristics
This command is unavailable in this program version.
It allows to indicate :
- the clearance, minimum depth under the keel then the vessel navigates,
- the agrounding draught (the vessel is agrounding at this depth),
- the minimum draught (the draught clearance agrounding.

- Preferences - height unit
You can choice feet or meters for heights and draught.

- Preferences - time setting
You can choice local time or a time with a fixed universal time offset.

- Preferences - time period viewing
You can choice a two or six days period of viewing.

- Preferences - window
You can choice a graph window with a mobile cursor which indicates height at the considered time or a table window which indicates tidal extremes. Same effect can be obtained by toolbar.

- Computation - Port sill setting
This command is unavailable in this program version.
You can set the sill f the current harbour. This value is recorded in the current database.

- Computation - Computation
You can define the first day of the computation period and launch computation with this command. Same effect can be obtained by toolbar.

- Computation - Barometer
This option allows you to define atmospheric pressure at which water heights are computed.

- Computation - place selection
You can choice the place the program calculates the heights by three methods:
- by distance from a position,
- by reference station ( places rattached at the considered reference station are only selected),
- by characters string.

- Special - Help
This command allows you to see the help file.

- Special - Registration
This command allows you to register the program.

- Special - About ...
This comand gives you program version and author coordinates.
